What is American KDS?
The letters "KDS" stand for Karate-Do Shotokai. Shoto was a pen name for Gichin Funakoshi (respectfully called O'Sensei) who lived in Japan and is widely acknowledged as the father of modern karate. Kai means group, thus the Shoto-kai is "O'Sensei's Group" who study and teach Kara-te, or Way of the Empty Hand.
Mitsusuke Harada Sensei (see video at right), trained personally with O'Sensei and was awarded the highest rank of 5th Dan by him. He continues to further this art as head of the KDS based in Wales, United Kingdom. He visited the U.S. personally in 1998 and adopted American KDS as the only group in America practicing under his direction.
Discipline. Integrity. Respect.
